The FLYHT Customer Engineering team is looking to add a Support Software Engineer / Developer to our team. Customer Engineering who will be responsible for modifying and deploying custom solutions, using FLYHT’s proprietary hardware and software, to our customers. This person will work closely with account management and the rest of the Customer Engineering team as well our development staff to deliver high value to our customers. A Software Support Engineer / Developer must be a self starter and love problem solving. They can work in a problem space with many unknowns but still find an optimal solution quickly and effectively.

We’re looking for (not all required)

  • Experience coding in C/ C++/Python/Java/Java Script/Bash Scripting/Golang and others are considered an asset. We apply the best tool for the job
  • Experience with database technologies such as MongoDB (NOSQL), SQL Server, MySQL, DB2, DynamoDB, Athena, S3
  • Experience with Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Yocto, and OpenWRT
  • Development of unit tests and system testing software tools using simulated or real hardware
  • Can contribute to and champion development of processes and procedures to continually improve and expand FLYHT’s products and services
  • Previous AWS experience
  • A desire to be an integral part of an aviation focused team
  • Desire a track record of learning quickly
  • Analytical and problem-solving capability in a collaborative environment
  • Skills in customer and interpersonal communication and patients to deal with a wide variety of clients
  • Able to excel in a dynamic workflow environment 

Assets (not required but would be looked at as differentiators)

  • Good knowledge and understanding of different development methodologies, practices, and tools such as code repositories, testing frameworks, release practices, continuous integration, and automated build servers
  • Experience with satellite-based communication protocols
  • Experience in test automation and automated code coverage analysis
  • Knowledge of and experience with common aircraft data buses such as ARINC 717 and ARINC 429 or a desire to learn these
  • Experience simulating connected devices and systems
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification
  • Remote system management (firmware management)
  • Experience building Lambda functions

  • Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary diploma, preferably in a related field (e.g. Avionics, Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering)
  • 3 to 5 years avionics related design experience
  • Proficient with SolidWorks, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with communication, navigation, audio systems, flight management systems, aircraft electronic flight bags, etc.
  • Knowledge of Transport Canada, FAA and EASA regulations
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid passport (travel required)

Assets (not required but would be looked at as differentiators)

  • Experience with FAR 25 or equivalent regulations
  • Systems integration experience (FMS, Audio, etc.) on fixed wing aircraft
  • Experience on commercial aircraft
  • Experience with design change certification

  • Creating and checking engineering documents and technical drawings. Specifically wiring diagrams, wire routing diagrams, cable harness assemblies, installation drawings, electrical load analyses, systems substantiation reports, weight & balance amendments, installation instructions, flight manual supplements and instructions for continued airworthiness
  • Performing troubleshooting of problems and devising solutions
  • Advising, liaising, collaborating and coordinating with and between all internal and external stakeholders including delegates, airworthiness authorities, and auditors.
  • Providing customer and installation support both on-site and remote
